Stick with Vista or switch to 7?

I have the following computer specs:

    AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core (2.1 GHz)
    2.8 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics

And finally, Windows Vista: Home Premium

We all know Vista was crap when it came out but I don't have any recent experience with it at all so I don't really know how bad it is now what with all the patches they've released for it.

Now, I have a copy of Windows 7 I can use but, of course, I would have to go to the trouble of reinstalling everything and transferring all of my files over. The question is, is it really worth it to switch to 7 or is Vista now repaired enough to actually not make much of a difference if I did switch?

EDIT: I just realized this should be in ICFR. Sorry.

Yeah, Vista was a steaming pile of shit.

Do you have a legit copy of Vista? I've been trying to put bootcamp partition on my mac. I have the windows 7 Upgrade disc but I don't have a pre-existing OS to upgrade from.

I have legit copies of both. Vista was already installed when I got it.

if you're not paying, might as well upgrade to 7.

there's really very, very little difference though. the main problem with Vista's launch was driver support from third parties because the driver system was completely overhauled. aside from that, 7 just has more idiot-friendly settings preconfigured (UAC, for example, is less intrusive because dumbasses can't cope with A) understanding why they need privilege separation or B) reconfiguring it to be less intrusive themselves).

I assumed that would be the case. If so, I'm not going to bother with upgrading but all the same, I'll wait for GP for a second opinion though before I make a decision.

Personally I say fuck windows, but thats just me. But if I had to pick between the two. I would pick 7 over vista, 7 is a hell of lot more stable than vista.

Vista, after service pack 2, was a decent OS. Auschwitz's post was pretty much spot on. Everyone that says Vista is shit probably only dealt with it when it was in its infancy. Nowadays, there's not a big difference between Vista and 7, but most people don't know that and don't care to know that. After all, Windows 7 is "newer" so why should they waste their time with Vista? /facepalm

I'd say, if hard drive space allows it, throw Win 7 up onto another partition, and try it out from there.
I'm here to create, to share, and to enable others to do the same. Everything else is secondary.

Eh, too much trouble. It's no big deal. I'll just stick to Vista then.
